I acquired his elegant brush pot in Hong Kong in the 1980's. It shows a wonderful design of a blossoming tree with a single moth that flies among the branches. The technical skills are equally remarkable - for example, notice that the antennae of the moth are as thin as a spiderweb.
This piece has 5 flaws which make it not "new" or "like new": In 5 places on the brush pot there are single petals missing from blossoms. Otherwise, there are no flaws, cracks or stains in this piece. I have included photos of the areas where 5 petals are missing, indicated with blue arrows.
This brush pot is a masterpiece, in spite of the flaws. The ancient Greek statues "Venus de Milo" and "Winged Victory" and are also masterpieces - their damage doesn't make them less excellent in any way.
This brush pot is obviously the work of a master. I would welcome hearing from you if you are interested in this piece.
