This is JeanRichard’s 2007 effort and it is absolutely stunning. The TV Screen impresses us with an elephantine Tonneau shape, with case dimensions of 41 mm x 39 mm x 11.5 mm, and a 22 mm lug width. In the process, this JR transcends mere classic styling, making Tonneau an essential part of any collection. With a gentle-Silver Guilloche dial displaying variable sized Rhodium plated markers done in precisely-applied Arabic’s, the lesson now begins.
An immediate impression that something unique is happening on the matte-Silver palette is beautifully obvious. The “Retrograde” is considered one of the important complications among elite timepieces. JeanRichard gives us two Retrogrades. One for the days of the month, the other for seconds, calibrated to thirty.
Watching the flip return of a retrograde is more than just giggle fun. An appreciation of such a complication awaits the collector who seeks out this particular mechanical complexity. Knowing that repeated flips of the two Retrograde hands will continue unabated for decades to come is somewhat anxious in its reward. I love this stuff…!!
The graceful and almost Seth Thomas-like dial, is finalized with all four hands blued to Winchester perfection. The hour and minute hands are sculpted in modified dagger, while the two retrograde hands take the form of slender batons. Zero amounts of Super Luminova will make for an uneventful Dark-Eight.
Inside this Swiss Sanctuary is where the real story should have begun, as Daniel must certainly be able to be channeled from beyond. An automatic, 30 Jewel, JR 23 movement, as elaborated by this “Manufacture”, is simply perfect. Adapted and complicated movements like this transcend horological basics and allow a certain level of pride for the aficionado. An automatic triple date from Switzerland, while extremely practical for daily life, is also extremely rewarding for life-long aesthetic fulfillment as well as for its heirloom undertone.
My Double Retrograde is resplendent in mirror polishing throughout and gently rounded edges, where necessary. The deco-inspired lugs meld gracefully to the hand-stitched strap. This thickly padded, and wide-grain JeanRichard strap, is done in Satin-Ebony Alligator, with the fixed-end festooned with a “JeanRichard” signed, single-fold deployant.
Being “Brand New” this JR shows no wear…it is flawless. The original and hermetically sealed packaging from Switzerland was opened only for photo purposes. Inside the sealed prophylactic was the same glacial air that Daniel once breathed…I opened it carefully, took a deep breathe, and let the ionized air of Le Locle consume me…!
Since this wonderful timepiece will be arriving to you one step removed from its original factory sealing, the highly polished case and JeanRichard deployant are pristine. The subtly-domed sapphire crystal is treated to dual drippings of AR coatings, and is flawless too. Around back, is the never removed and wear indicator protected, four-screw, stainless-steel caseback. Timekeeping, based on a one day power reserve from a gentle left-right automatic rocking, was +3 sec, and all complicated functions operated, as they should…Precisely…!!
All factory sundries are present here. They include: Both boxes, the inner being a fantastic kid-leather wrapped and padded number. Here is the rest: Operating manual, open Daniel JeanRichard international two-year warranty card, service center manual and the document box.
